Our great great grandmother, Mary, who married John Lewis, liked to be called Polly. It's a shame that we don't know her maiden name. None of her children's birth records revealed that name and John and Mary's marriage record has not been found yet. She was born in either Pennsylvania or Germany, according to two differing census records, and wasn't able to write in English, probably because she only knew the German language well. Mary's death record says that she died of "bilious cholic", meaning a gallbladder attack, at age 67 and 5 months on the 30th of July 1870.
