JOHN LEWIS

John Lewis, an early pioneer of Trumbull County, Ohio, was born in 1801, in Washington County, Maryland. He met and married his wife, Mary, in Unity, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania about 1824. They started their family there and later moved to Paris, Portage County, Ohio.

John bought his land in Newton on 2 Mar 1843, bounded on the West by Henry Wilderson's property. John was engaged in general farming until his death. He and his wife, Mary, had seven children: Morris, William, Mary A., Isaiah, Andrew, Jonathan, and David. They were members of the Lutheran Church. As I mentioned previously, Mary and John were buried in the Wilderson Cemetery and so were most of their children.
