The John and Judith (Dillingham) Shatswell Family

These ninth great grandparents from England are my last Mackey Family ancestors that I will tell you about, as I explained in an earlier post last month.  I will keep this blog page available for me to post stories about other collateral relatives and some other kinds of  genealogical material that I'll want to share with you occasionally.

John and Judith were both born in Ipswich, Essex, England and were married c. 1597 there. Here is the list of their children:

Neptune Marina Quay, Ipswich

During the 14th to 17th centuries Ipswich was a kontor for the Hanseatic League, the port being used for imports and exports to the Baltic. In the time of Queen Mary the Ipswich Martyrs were burnt at the stake on the Cornhill for their Protestant beliefs. A monument commemorating this event now stands in Christchurch Park. From 1611 to 1634 Ipswich was a major center for emigration to New England.

DIED: abt 1617 in Sibbertoft, Northamptonshire, England
SOURCES: In an article by David A. Macdonald titled "A new look at the Corwin and Shatswell Families" in the Register (NEHGR) 150:180 (Ap r 1996). Discusses a Chancery court proceeding in 1627 against the administrator of the estate of widow Judith Shatswell of Sibbertoft, Northhamptonshire, England, who had died more than a decade earlier. There is reference to "two of ye uncles and neere kinsemen".
