JONATHAN and JANE (WILLIAMS) ROSE and FAMILY

Jonathan Rose of Hemingborough, Yorkshire, England was baptized on the 25th day of February 1674 but his age on that date is unknown.  Jonathan was a cooper by trade and he decided to emigrate to Occumbomock, a profitable whaling town in Ballport, Long Island, New York, in 1680. He built casks and barrels there for the shipment of the whale oil to New York City. With the money he earned, he bought many acres of land in Brookhaven, Long Island, Suffolk County, New York. He planted orchards and gardens on his fertile land.

On the 20th of March in 1682, he married Jane Williams of Brookhaven. They had the following children, who were all born in Brookhaven:
abt. 1690 Robert, our ancestor
abt. 1692 John
abt. 1694 Samuel
abt. 1696 Ephraim
abt. 1698 Timothy
abt. 1700 Ezekiel

A few years after Ezekiel was born, the family sold out and removed to Orange County, New York.
